Review of the day

I feel like there have been a crazy number of near misses with the tips over the past few weeks – and whilst I’m sure it will turn eventually, the list was added to today…

I issued 3 tips on the day – and all 3 ran really well – but non of them quite managed to win.

The first to try was Markov – and despite appearing to be the best horse in the race, he could only manage to finish third.

I suspect a fair part of that was due to his inexperience. But his jockey rushing him up round the outside of the field, as they rounded the home turn, wouldn’t have helped.

He was in the lead jumping the second last, but looked green and unsure what to do.
He wandered around from that point on and ultimately was beaten by a couple of horses with more focus.

I’m sure he will improve massively for the run – but that’s not much consolation for today…

The next tip to run was Chesterfield.
He also didn’t have the best of passages round the home turn – getting trapped in a pocket.

By the time he had got out, Remiluc had a few lengths on him – and he couldn’t manage to peg them back.

It was another good run – but not one good enough to collect from.

Forest des Aigles was the final tip to run – and it was a similar story.

Always travelling well close to the lead, he looked to have the measure of Clan Legend approaching the last.
However, he then started to tire, whilst Clan Legend picked up for pressure.

I knew there was a chance that he might not quite get home – and that was how it panned out…

In terms of the Mentions, then all 4 ran disappointingly.

Western Climate was well beaten in the Newbury opener – a race in which Hello George justified significant market support.
It was a similar story with Theatre Flame at Doncaster: who having seemed to be travelling fine, emptied very quickly.
O’Faolains Boy ran OK to a point in the veterans chase – but got very tired and was pulled up.
Whilst Oldgrangewood ran really poorly in the Greatwood Gold cup – and was also pulled up,
The race was won by eye catcher Thomas Crapper. I thought the ground might be too soft for him, but he had no issue with it and fairly romped home.

TVB.
