Review of the day

It’s nice when things come together…

It’s not happened often enough this season – with my ability to slalom around the winners, at times, reaching almost epic levels !

It did look initially as if it might be a similar case this afternoon – but then Casse Tete came along, and everything was good again.

I missed tipping Gary Moore’s Camping Ground, the other week – but I was never going to miss Casse Tete.

An eye catcher; a maximum tip and a Fair bet – he won  by 27 lengths, hard held.

He even drifted in price.
If his SP of 15/2 had been available this morning, I might have increased the maximum stake threshold !

Unfortunately the 2 tips in the Imperial Cup, didn’t do quite so well…

There were no excuses for either one: Bigmartre had the run of the race from the front – and just wasn’t good enough. Similarly, Kayf Blaco appeared to have a trouble free passage – but didn’t pick up as I expected.

Both have to go down as disappointments…

As for the Mentions, then they had a mixed day…

Deauville Crystal should possibly have won the opener at Sandown – but he was given a bit too much to do and had to settle for a fast finishing second.
Minella Lad won the lottery of novice handicap hurled final – though Man from Mars was well beaten.
Upswing looked like he was going to win the handicap chase – but he didn’t find as much as looked likely and eventually finished third behind the progressive Shanroe Santos.
Whilst Alcala ran reasonably in the finale – but was no match for the first time blinkered, Morning Reggie…

Finally, over at Hereford, Sirabad was hassled for the lead throughout – and that probably cost him his chance.
It briefly looked like Dream Bolt might take advantage – but he didn’t get home and ultimately finished well beaten.
Maybe he’s not the horse I thought he was…

On balance though, it was a pretty good day – and one which sets us up nicely for week ahead…

TVB.
