Review of the day

It’s not easy to know what to write on a day like today…

In one respect, it was a bit of a nothing day – with a tip, placed at big odds, covering most of the day – however, to say that doesn’t tell the whole story, is a bit of an under-statement…!

The tip that placed, was Lil Rockerfeller – the darling of the service – a horse who I first put up in the forum on November 19th – and who we have all been following – and topping up on ever since…

And he didn’t just place – he came unbelievably close to pulling off one of the shocks of the festival.
Leading over the last: battling back on the run in – but getting mugged close home by a horse who appeared on his blind side.

There have been some tough results this season - even this week – but that one topped the lot.

And yet, objectively, he ran a massive race – and it was a brilliant pick (even if I say so myself !).
The trouble is, there is a such fine line between success and failure - and he finished on the wrong side of it

Aside from him, it was a bit of a nothing day !

Just about all of the tips ran well – but non of them ran quite well enough…

Electric Concord ran a sound race to finish sixth in the Pertemps final – but I doubt any of the bookmakers paid any lower than fifth.
Similarly, Thomas Crapper ran really well to finish fourth in the plate – with Henryville also running a good race, until tiring close home.
Somewhat ironically, the race was taken apart by the eye catcher Road to Riches…

The mares hurdle was a little disappointing, with neither Le Bague au Roi or Titi De Montmartre ever really threatening.
And whilst the same was true with Mall Dini in the finale, he did look like he would have gone very close, if he had been ridden nearer to the pace…

In the 2 graded chases: Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh bounced back to form with a double, courtesy of Yorkhill and Un De Sceaux.

I think people were maybe a little premature writing them off - class is permanent, it is form that is temporary…
