If
we needed confirmation that our luck is currently out, then we got it this
afternoon, in the King George VI chase.
Quite how Tea for Two managed not to finish in the first
3, I’ve no idea – but having jumped the last looking likely to finish second, he
somehow lost out on third place in the final stride.
He
only missed out on the runners up spot by a head and a short head – but they are
often the fine lines between success and failure.
Not
that the other tips on the day came particularly close to registering a
success…
Max
Ward travelled nicely for the first half of the novice handicap chase at Kempton
– but when the pace quickened, he was found wanting.
It
looked as if he simply wasn’t good enough…
There were no excuses for either Bon Enfant or Moscata,
who both finished well beaten and never really featured…
The
eye catchers also had a day to forget, with 4 fallers out of 6 – only slightly
better than the Mentions, who managed 3 fallers out of 7…
In
fact there were few performances from either group, worthy of a mention: the
commendable effort of Wakanda, who finished second at Wetherby, being the
notable exception.
At
Market Rasen, both Unzing and Gonalston Cloud managed to win, on the back of
positive mentions: whilst at a much shorter price, Mr Mix did the same at
Wincanton.
It
says a lot about the day, that the best result was the abandonment of the race
at Wincanton, where Bears Rails – and all bar one other runner – where taken out
of the race early.
I
guess it could have been worse, I could have tipped Hollow Blue Sky. After the
early carnage, all he had to do, was jump round to win – but even that proved a
bit too much for him to do…
It
can be a tough game.
TVB.
