Review of the day

As regular readers will know, there is nothing TVB likes better, than finding a plot to justify backing an outsider…

In truth, there has been perilously few of them this season – as the market seems to wise-up to every possible plot, almost as soon as prices are released.

But somehow, Court Frontier managed to slip through the net today – and when the late money did arrive for him, I was very optimistic that there was substance to my unsubstantiated theory !

That said, never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a horse freely available at 20/1, prior to 11:00 this morning, would be sent off a 9/2 favourite.

But that’s what happened – and whilst there were a few anxious moments along the way, Denis O’Regan timed his run well and the horse was very game.

As I said this morning, I expected him to achieve much more in Ireland, so I was relatively confident the had the latent ability – and he proved that to be the case this afternoon…

Unfortunately the days other tip, Quito du Tresor, ran like a horse who has now lost all ability.
In fairness, I would actually say that he ran too poorly, for it to have been his form.
He never looked comfortable at any point in the race – and I would not be surprised if there was some reason other than terminal decline !

That said, he had everything in his favour today, so I won’t accept any excuses.
He can be no more than a Mention, from now on…

With regard to todays mentions, then Definite Outcome ran disappointingly.
That is always a possibility with a horse such as him – and is why you need to ensure you get the right price.

The result of his race took a bit of fathoming, with Tanit River producing a run far superior to anything he had done previously.
The main players certainly didn’t run as expected: though Flintham travelled really well for a good deal of the race: and Robinsfirth wasn’t completely beaten when unshipping his rider at the second last.

Finally, a little like with Quito du Tresor, it looks as Ifandbutwhynot is one simply to watch in the future.
In fairness I was happy to mainly watch him today – and he did travel well to a point.
However, he just doesn’t seem capable of going through with his effort and I have a feeling it won’t matter how far in the handicap he’s dropped, the result is likely to be the same…
