Review of the day

There was nothing to get too excited about, this afternoon…

There were 2 tips on the day – and both ran reasonable races…

First up it was Harry Hunt – and he travelled really well to the home turn.
However, Carre Noir travelled just as well, in behind him – and neither of them could get to Patsys Castle.

Ultimately Harry Hunt could only manage third – but from a P&L perspective, there was no damage done.

Quito Du Tresor didn’t do quite so well – but he was always the riskier one…

He looked a little rusty to me (either his absence – or old age catching up on him !) – but was running on well, enough at the end.

I’d probably be prepared to give him one more chance – in the right circumstances – ideally in a lower grade race…

His race was won comfortably by Seefood.
He was an eye-catcher last time – and came good today.
My concern was that he wouldn’t find todays race enough of a stamina test – but simply, I think he had too much class for his rivals.
His mark will go back up as a result of the win – but he might be worth sticking with for another run…

Our Kaempfer was the other eye catcher running today – but despite being sent off at odds of 1/2, he was beaten by his sole rival.
In fairness, 2 horse races can be misleading affairs (jockeyship tends to be key) so I wouldn’t hold this run against him.
In fact, it might make him more of a betting proposition, next time !

Generous Ransom was the final horse that I was really interested in today.
He was making his debut for Philip Hobbs and was sent off 11/10 fav.
However, he never seemed to be moving that well – and could only finish third.
Maybe it was the ground (I somehow doubt he lacked for fitness).
He’s another who I’d be inclined to give another chance to…

Astre de la Cour travelled nicely at Newbury – but seemed to run out of gas at the second last.
Maybe he still needed the run – or maybe something wasn’t quite right (hopefully Stuart will be able to advise, at some point).

Grey Life showed distinct promise in the opener at Market Rasen – and is one to look out for next time (over fences).
The Kvilleken travelled in the race as The Kvilleken does – but he didn’t fool many.

Later on the card, Desert Queen was indeed reluctant to start in the big race – but once she had consented – and taken the lead - it always looked unlikely that anything would pass her.
I thought Kalane ran a nice race to finish fourth – with Run Ructions Run a much more obvious eye catcher, in third.

Finally, Rebel Turn got no further than the first fence at Thurles - I did say that I didn’t fancy much there !!

TVB.
