I
don’t know about you guys, but I find 25/1 winners, so last year…
33/1
winners are the thing nowadays !
Or
maybe even 40/1 if you hung fire for a few minutes and waited for the price
reversion, as that was the price Anteros was available in 3 places, just after
8:30 this morning.
Bizarrely, he was available even bigger in running (I
took 50 !) – yet to my eyes, he was always travelling like the
winner…
I
think everyone else had latched on to the other tip in the race, Corrin
Wood.
And
in fairness, he ran a mighty race.
Coming round the home turn tho, the writing was on the
wall for him, as Anteros swept majestically past.
Rons
Dream last year: Anteros this – it was soon be overtaking the Devon Marathon as
my favourite race in the calendar !
Corrins Wood stayed on stoutly to claim an honourable
second – which was brilliant news for Chris…
With
my words from this morning about interpreting the service, no doubt still
ringing in his ears, he did a £10 exacta on the two of them – and was rewarded
with a return of £2850.
No
prizes for guessing who claimed todays ‘Star pupil’ award !
Things didn’t go quite so well in the other race in which
I tipped.
In
fairness, there were mitigating circumstances, as a nasty incident with Le Reve
saw him cannon into Shotgun Paddy – and completely take out Racing
Pulse.
To
his credit Shotgun Paddy raced on – and was still in with a chance turning for
home.
But
he was beaten jumping the last.
I
couldn’t have been much further away with the first 3 home – though it was
impossible to know that the winner, Viconte de Noyer, would stay the
trip…
Stilleto was a non runner in the big race of the day – but ‘eye
catcher’ Taquin du Seuil manfully took on the responsibility of representing TVB
hopes…
Liam
latched on to him when I put him up in the forum a few weeks back – and backed
him at 20/1, ante post.
I’d
gone off Taquin a bit today because of the form of Jonjos yard – even tho I had
a niggling suspicion he might bounce back.
And
that’s how it turned out - with Liam, no doubt, shouting him on from the
stand.
He’s
going to be shouting on Leonvcavello even louder tomorrow, as he has that one in
a double with him (another eye catcher, from the pre-season).
There wasn’t quite do much to get excited about in the
days other races…
Defi
Du Seuil was a very impressive winner of the opener - a race in which Dino
Velvet was a little unfortunate to come down at the last, when in third
place.
Thsitlecrack won the novice chase – but not before giving
supporters a few scares.
He’s
an absolute beast of a horse – and was just too keen to get on with
things.
Colin Tizzard will have his work cut out, keeping his
exuberance under control.
My 3
fancies in the novice handicap hurdle, didn’t get involved where it mattered –
though Memes Horse ran a very eye caching race.
Whilst in the finale, despite coming in for market
support, Elope never really threatened to get involved.
Over
at Wetherby, Indian Voyage came to win his race – but the ground wasn’t soft
enough for him and he could only plug on at the one pace.
It
was an opportunity missed – even though there could still be another day for
him…
So
not everything went as we would have liked – but as Francis said, it’s never
going to be a bad day, when you back a 40/1 winner !
Good
old Anteros
TVB.
